Skinner Family Funerals has served the Yorke Peninsula with compassion and dignity since 1926. Originally Moonta’s town carpenter, Ewart Tennyson Skinner stepped in as undertaker following the passing of neighbour Mr. Hosking, beginning a proud family tradition. Operating as E.T. Skinner & Son, the Skinners served the community until Ewart’s passing in 1956. His son Mostyn and wife Joan continued the legacy, introducing the first hearse and building a residence and chapel in the 1970s. In 1979, they expanded to Maitland, acquiring another funeral business. After Mostyn’s death in 1980, his son Paul became the third-generation funeral director, eventually renaming the business Skinner Family Funerals and ending the carpentry arm to focus fully on funeral care. Paul and Helen later acquired Seeley Funerals in Kadina, growing the business and bringing in their children, Tim and Andrew, followed by Andrew’s wife Claire. Together, they introduced South Australia's first BF Ford Falcon hearse and expanded their facilities. In 2021, the family opened Central Region Crematorium, the first in the Yorke Peninsula and Mid North. Now led by Helen, Andrew, and Tim, the Skinner family continues to support local families with empathy, professionalism, and enduring community commitment.
